Level I

Goal 2 – Design and develop effective and engaging learning experiences, environments, resources, and assessments

Example 1:
This artifact is a PBworks wiki webpage that I worked with my classmates to develop. The assignment was to read a chapter of information on brain-based learning, and summarize our findings as a collaborative effort. The particular page that I worked on was Chapter 14: The Non-conscious Learning Environment. On this page, my group and I provided a summary of how the non-conscious environment can affect the learning process, listed practical tips for educators and trainers, and included pictures that support our text. This artifact meets Goal 2 because it shows that I am aware of various factors that should be considered when designing a learning environment, and can make specific recommendations for creating an environment most conducive to learning based upon this knowledge.

Example 2:
This artifact is a discussion post that I made in one of my CUW courses. The post is a reflection that I completed after I read a chapter in my text about brain-based learning. In this reflection, I described how the content resonated with my own experiences as a learner, how I am applying the concepts (or disregarding them) within my own classroom, and what I intend to do differently in my own personal learning and in my work environment based upon what I read. This artifact meets Goal 2 because it shows that I can reflect upon factors that affect learning and the learning environment. It also demonstrates that I am able to identify ways to make improvements for my own students based upon the knowledge that I gained about brain-based learning.

Example 3:
This artifact is a discussion post that I made in one of my CUW courses. The post is about brain-based learning and the learning environment. In this post, I developed a list of tips that teachers should consider to promote brain-healthy learning. These tips include considerations that should be made for hearing, classroom acoustics, vision, touch, taste, smell, stress/emotions, movement, brain rhythms, and gender. This artifact meets Goal 2 because it shows that I understand the elements that must be accounted for in order to design and develop a learning environment and learning experiences that support the needs of the human brain.
